EXHIBITION: Breeze Blocks

August 27, 2020 @ 9:00 am - September 24, 2020 @ 5:00 pm

Free
Alex Waggoner Converse College art

Alex Waggoner’s paintings are based on the traditional urban Southern landscape and architecture that surround her. Her latest work will be featured in Breeze Blocks: peace in pattern in the Milliken Art Gallery. With her recent move to Atlanta, Waggoner is currently exploring the rich history of the city and the integral role of architecture in Atlanta’s story. Through this exploration of architectural individuality proliferant in the Southeast, she aims to encourage a thoughtful dialogue concerning architectural historical significance, forgotten spaces in-between, and the impact of gentrification.

Waggoner graduated from Savannah College of Art and Design with a BFA in Painting and Printmaking in 2012. In 2014, she was one of the Regional Emerging Artist in Residence at Artspace in Raleigh, North Carolina. She was included in New American Paintings No. 118 in 2015 and was awarded Best In Show at the 2017 Piccolo Spoleto Juried Art Exhibition. She was an Artist in Residence at The Gibbes in the summer of 2018. Waggoner moved to Atlanta, Georgia in September of 2019 where she is a studio artist at MINT.

Breeze Blocks will run from August 27-September 24, 2020. Waggoner will present an online discussion and Gallery Talk in September.

The exhibition is located in the Milliken Art Gallery and is free of charge. Gallery hours are Sundays from 2-5 pm, Monday through Friday from 9 am-5 pm. The Gallery is closed during school holidays.
