Director of Converse II and Special Programs

| Description: |
The director of Converse II and Special Programs oversees the Converse II program, the program in Lifelong Learning, and special (including on-line) educational programming. The director is responsible for the development of existing programs and for the development of new entrepreneurial academic programs. The director coordinates the work of support staff and faculty teaching courses in Converse II, Lifelong Learning, and special academic (including on-line) programs. S/he reports to the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences, performing the duties that the Vice President delegates.

| Qualifications: |
College-level administrative experience and commitment to the education of adult women required; experience in adult or continuing education preferred. Strong computer and interpersonal skills required. Master’s Degree and experience with on-line education strongly preferred.

| Responsibilities: |
To promote Converse II, programs in Lifelong Learning, and special academic programs throughout the Converse, Spartanburg, and larger communities. To review and recommend to the Vice President for Academic Affairs revisions to the Converse II and Lifelong Learning programs. These revisions should increase the enrollment and net revenue generated by the program while maintaining academic quality. To develop new and especially on-line academic programs, working in conjunction with and under the direction of the Vice President for Academic Affairs. These new programs should be developed only when there is demonstrated market need and mission value. All new programs must aim at increasing Converse enrollment and net revenue and will be maintained only if they do so. To recruit and assign faculty and adjunct faculty, in conjunction with the Vice President for Academic Affairs, to teach courses in programs overseen by the director. To serve as liaison between his/her office and faculty, department chairs, and deans. To present to the Vice President for Academic Affairs all budgets under his/her jurisdiction. To direct and evaluate the performance of the staff working under his/her supervision and to recommend compensation and compensation adjustments for those personnel. To present to the Vice President for Academic Affairs regular reports on the progress of his/her programs, including reports prior to each meeting of the Converse College Board of Trustees. To work with the Senior Vice President to assure that all programs under his/her direction meet all applicable standards of external accreditation and are compatible with strategic planning standards at Converse. To assume direct responsibility for maintaining relationships between Converse programs under his/her direction and any external partners, including public school constituencies.

Prospect Researcher

Identify and profile individual, corporate, and foundation donors, and research prospective donors for gifts, endowed gifts, special project funding, and annual/sustaining support. Provide written reports about specific donors and prospects, containing an analysis of information gathered from public sources. With development staff members, strategize regarding prospect identification and cultivation of donor prospects. Collaborate with other members of the College’s Advancement division to create fundraising project summaries, funding proposals, stewardship reports and other written materials for internal and external audiences.

| Qualifications: |
Bachelor’s degree. Two years of experience in the role of Prospect/Donor Researcher in nonprofit sector working with sensitive and confidential information, preferred. An aptitude for logical thinking. Knowledge of standard concepts, practices and procedures related to the position, including: ability to utilize research databases and technologies, expertise in use of English grammar, punctuation and syntax; familiarity with appropriate business software applications; ability to learn subject-specific terminology for use in developing written materials; knowledge of when and how to use various channels of communication. Extensive computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft office software, searching online databases and the Internet. Demonstrated knowledge of research skills, business correspondence and reports. Strong project management skills, initiative and creative problem-solving skills. Ability to meet deadlines while maintaining good relations with colleagues. Ability to quickly and effectively gather information by means of interviews, database research, etc. Demonstrated ability to work both collaboratively and independently and to meet goals and deadlines in a timely manner. Ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of people on- and off-campus. Comfortable managing multiple projects, priorities and deadlines. Commitment to the highest standards of customer service and professionalism.

| Responsibilities: |
Assume primary responsibility for meeting the prospect identification and research needs of members of the development staff and President of the College. Meet regularly with members of the development staff, keeping abreast of their activities and the initiatives and programs underway. Regularly collaborate with development staff to develop prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, and overall fundraising strategies. Consult with development staff to determine feasibility of research requests and special projects. Advise members of development staff about potential new prospects as appropriate or requested. Use both standard and novel prospect research techniques and tools to identify new prospects and complete donor background requests, including periodical and electronic screening and/or information provided by the prospect or his/her organization. Create profile reports and strategy memos tailored to individual needs. Maintain policies and procedures for the prospect research program. Maintain and develop professional relationships with local prospect researchers, as well as national and local associations. Review local and national news and business publications, keeping abreast of prospect information and local and regional business developments and economic trends. Send articles to development staff as appropriate. Manage research information services. Utilize Development database to track/store profile data. Adhere to ethical and confidentiality guidelines, including but not limited to safeguarding the confidentiality of donor information at all times. Maintain the professional and ethical standards set forth for the field by the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement (APRA). Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
