Bio

Margaret Moore’s involvement with teaching and women’s athletics began in 1973 when she started her career here at Converse College as a member of the physical education department and head field hockey and tennis coach. While coaching tennis, field hockey, basketball and volleyball, Professor Moore was recognized by her peers with a number of professional awards. She also excelled as a ranked tennis player in South Carolina. Having retired as athletic director in 2006, Professor Moore has placed all her energies into her teaching and is currently emphasizing the importance of overall wellness for the young women of Converse College. As chair of physical education, she has proposed and implemented many new courses which promote wellness and fitness for young women. The cornerstone course, which was developed as part of this emphasis, is Introduction to Fitness and Wellness. The faculty also saw the importance of overall wellness for our students and voted to have all students take the course as a requirement for graduation. In addition to her passion for teaching, Professor Moore actively participates in many committees and special assignments on campus. She received the Kathryne Amelia Brown award for excellence in teaching in 1977 and has been a part of many community activities involving youth sports for girls and physical fitness.

Professor Margaret Moore was inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame at her alma mater, Queens University, Charlotte, for her years of dedication to the promotion of women in sports.
