Enjoy a lovely evening of Vocal Chamber Music presented by the Petrie School of Music faculty on February 15th at 7:30 pm in Daniel Recital Hall! Featured on this program will be “The Maiden’s Lament” by Canadian composer, Michael Parker. Based on five Newfoundland folk songs, this piece is a through-composed song cycle that uses clarinet to evoke it’s melancholy tone. Also featured is “Dear Youth,” a song cycle by the prolific American composer, Daron Hagen that incorporates excerpts of letters written by women during the Civil War. “Flowers of the Soul” by American composer, Henry Mollicone is a cycle for soprano, violin, piano, and cello with texts of the poems of Emily Dickinson. The final selection is a sweet canzonetta for soprano, piano, and clarinet, composed by the Italian operatic composer Gaetano Donizetti. Though obviously written in the 19th century, this piece was only discovered, edited and published in 1986. Admission is free.
