Lauren Rogers Hopkins received her B.F.A in Music Theatre from Elon University. She trained for many years in New York and North Carolina. Lauren is originally from Hendersonville, NC where she worked for Flat Rock Playhouse, the State Theatre of North Carolina. There she was a part of their YouTheatre program where she taught all levels of tap, Broadway jazz, theater arts, choreographed, and was the director of their summer apprentice program for college students. While working in New York, she was tap assistant to Germaine Salsberg. She taught with and for Germaine at Broadway Dance Center and Steps on Broadway and was a part of Germaine’s tap group, Les Femmes. They performed around NYC at tap festivals, including Tradition in Tap. For the past five years, Lauren was the studio director, performance program director, tap coordinator, and tap choreographer for Bluffton School of dance in Bluffton, SC. Her choreography won Entertainment Awards & Critiques Choice Awards at Onstage New York, and she was nominated for the MTA Choreography Showcase at LA Dance Magic.
Lauren is also a member of the Actor’s Equity Association and has performed professionally for many years. Some of her favorite regional credits are Jennyanydots in Cats, Sarah in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Tammy in Hairspray and Silly Girl in Disney’s Beauty and The Beast. Some of her choreography credits include The Rocky Horror Picture Show, The Music Man, Peter Pan, Oklahoma!, Rent, Once On This Island, Mulan, and Little Shop of Horrors.
Lauren is a Professor of Dance at Converse College. Some of the classes she teaches are Beginning & Intermediate Tap, Musical Theatre Dance I & II, and Beginning Jazz. She also coordinates and choreographs for the Dance Concert. Lauren is the resident choreographer for the Department of Theatre & Dance and is extremely excited to choreograph Little Shop of Horrors this season! She can’t wait to work with the talented students and faculty here at Converse College!
