Lee Bjornsen is the Director of the Center for Academic Excellence at Converse University. She is a first-generation college student with a strong desire to build meaningful relationships and provide support for students on their educational journey. Growing up in a small Pennsylvania town, Lee’s years in college were especially meaningful because she had the opportunity to meet people from around the world and broaden her experiences. Although she had been academically successful in high school, there were so many things she didn’t understand about college, and she found herself in academic jeopardy after the first semester. Through the support of family, faculty and staff, she was able to rebound successfully and devoted her career efforts in the field of education.
After completing her BS in Education Ministries from Houghton College in NY, she worked as a K-6 classroom teacher for twenty years in Fredericksburg, VA. In 2016, Lee chose to switch her career focus to work in higher education where she had such a positive experience during her undergraduate studies. So, she and her husband moved to Arkansas to work at John Brown University. While there she also earned her MA in Higher Education. Most recently, Lee served as the Director of Student Success at Mount Vernon Nazarene University in Ohio.
Lee and her husband are new to the Upstate area and look forward to exploring all that the region has to offer. She enjoys reading, cooking and baking, watching British mysteries, and spending time with family.
