Dr. Melissa Walker, George Dean Johnson, Jr. Professor of History Emerita, was a guest on Walter Edgar’s Journal, a radio program exploring the arts, culture, history of South Carolina and the American South.

Dr. Walker talks about the struggling economy, the crippling drought and the devastating boll weevil on the December 30, 2019 podcast titled, “South Carolina Between World Wars: The Great Depression.”

Listen to the podcast and hear about the families who wanted to pay Converse tuition with bales of cotton, their only asset at the time. Be sure to check out a mention of Miss Gee at the 27-minute mark!
