Bio & Environmental Studies Student Interns at Michigan Land Conservancy
August 21, 2017
Anyah Preston ’19 headed to Michigan for her summer internship at the South West Michigan Land Conservancy. She researched native and invasive species in Michigan, while also learning how to manage them and identify them. Anyah also explored the roles human interaction with the environment plays and potential consequences that effect.
“We also got to team up with the Kalamazoo nature center and survey the endangered butterfly species, Mitchell Satyrs,” Anyah said. “I learned an immense amount of information and got to spend all day outside, which was a dream come true!”
Anyah said her biology classes at Converse helped prepare her for this role. “Converse made this opportunity possible to me through the new grants that allow students to participate in internships and gain credit from them at the same time. It was the perfect opportunity for me and I felt extremely prepared because I have been taking lots of biology classes at Converse, as well as some classes at Wofford.”
