SUMMARY:EXHIBITION: Direct Experience
DESCRIPTION:“Direct Experience” is a group exhibition that highlights the voices of artists who are cancer survivors. The goal of this exhibition is to affirm that “life after cancer” not only exists but thrives—especially through the healing\, expressive\, and transformative power of art. \nThis group exhibition highlights artists whose work reflects personal resilience\, physical and emotional recovery\, and the evolving narratives of identity and creativity post-diagnosis. The work in “Direct Experience” pushes traditional boundaries of media\, engages the senses\, and invites dialogue on survival and hope. \nThis group exhibition will run from August 6 through September 3\, 2026. \nThe “Direct Experience” reception will be held on August 20\, 2026\, from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM. \nMilliken Art Gallery Hours\nThe exhibition is located in the Milliken Art Gallery and is free of charge.\nGallery hours are Sunday 2-5 PM; Monday – Friday 9-5 PM.\nThe Gallery is closed during school holidays.

Join us for a celebration of the arts\, featuring a curated exhibition and auction including works by Converse students\, alumni\, and community artists. \nGuests will have the opportunity to experience and learn more about the artists and their work while celebrating Converse’s longstanding commitment to the arts\, creativity\, and the transformative power of education. Artwork featured in the auction has been generously donated to Converse University by participating artists\, with 100% of the auction proceeds benefiting the Converse Fund\, which supports the people\, programs\, and places that make the Converse experience possible. \nAmong the featured pieces is a beautiful portrait of Converse’s Wilson Hall by local artist Alix Refshauge. The original\, owned by Converse University\, will be available for bidding during the event. Signed prints of Alix’s beautifully rendered portrait will also be available for purchase throughout the evening. \nEvery auction purchase\, event ticket\, and sponsorship helps strengthen the Converse experience while celebrating and expanding the connection between the University\, the arts\, and our broader community.
