SUMMARY:2026 RISE Symposium
DESCRIPTION:Converse will hold its fifth RISE (Research\, Internship\, and ArtS Experiential Learning) Symposium from April 13-17\, 2026. Open to all undergraduates\, graduates and Converse II students\, the RISE symposium empowers students to share their ideas\, discoveries and artistic work with our campus and local community within a professional setting. \nConverse’s 2026 RISE symposium will feature internships and research studies in: Internship Experiences\, Music Performance\, Original Music\, Research Findings\, Creative Writing\, Personal Statements\, Dance-New Works\, Theatrical and Film Production-New Works\, and a photo contest. \nThe music performance competition will take place on April 17\, 2026\, at 3:00 PM in Daniel Recital Hall. The 2026 symposium will run from April 13-17\, 2026\, with all student projects displayed throughout campus. Celebrate our students at the RISE Awards Reception and Ceremony on April 30\, 2026\, from 5-6:30 PM in the Barnet Room. \nRead more about the 2025 RISE symposium and see the list of awards. SUMMARY:Founder’s Day 2026 Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Join the Converse Community to celebrate Founders Day in Twichell Auditorium. The ceremony will begin with a processional of the Senior Class\, Faculty\, and Platform party. The Kathryne Amelia Brown Award will be presented to a faculty member. \nThis year’s keynote speaker is Jody Cole ’84 of Asheville\, NC\, Founder of Wild Rainbow African Safaris and 2024 recipient of the Mae Elizabeth Kilgo Spirit of Converse Award for alumni. \nThis event will be live-streamed on Converse’s YouTube channel. \nImmediately following the ceremony\, attendees are invited to the traditional Founders Day lunch outside of Wilson on the Johnson Plaza to enjoy Dexter Edgar Converse’s favorite dessert\, strawberries and cream. \nClasses will be canceled between 10:30 AM and 2:30 PM to allow for campus-wide celebrations. \nConverse faculty\, staff\, and students can learn more about this event at my.converse.edu.

SUMMARY:Converse Visiting Writer Reading: Richard Tillinghast
DESCRIPTION:The Converse Creative and Professional Writing program will host award-winning poet and essayist Richard Tillinghast on Tuesday\, April 28\, 2026\, at 8:00 PM in Zimmerli Common Room. Copies of Tillinghast’s newest award-winning books will be available for purchase at the reading. The event is free and open to the public. \nRichard Tillinghast’s recent book\, Blue If Only I Could Tell You\, won the 2022 White Pine Press Poetry Prize. His newest book\, Night Train to Memphis\, is his 14th poetry collection\, and Tillinghast is also the author of five books of creative nonfiction. His poems have appeared in the American Poetry Review\, The Atlantic\, The New Yorker\, Paris Review\, The New Republic\, Best American Poetry and elsewhere. He is recipient of the Amy Lowell Traveling Poetry Scholarship as well as grants from the Guggenheim Foundation\, the National Endowment for the Arts\, and the National Endowment for the Humanities. Tillinghast has taught writing and literature at Harvard University\, Sewanee University\, UC Berkley\, and the University of Michigan.
