DESCRIPTION:Converse will hold its third RISE (Research\, Internship\, and ArtS Experiential Learning) Symposium. \nOpen to all undergraduates\, graduates and Converse II students\, the RISE symposium empowers students to share their ideas\, discoveries and artistic work with our campus and local community within a professional setting. \nConverse’s RISE symposium features internships and research studies in Visual and Performing Arts\, Creative Writing\, Natural Sciences\, Mathematics and Data Science\, Humanities\, Languages and Cultures\, and Behavioral and Social Sciences. \nThe 2024 symposium will run from April 8 through April 12\, 2024\, with all student projects displayed throughout the week in Montgomery Student Center.

The mission of South Carolina Humanities is to enrich the cultural and intellectual lives of all South Carolinians. This not-for-profit organization presents and/or supports literary initiatives\, lectures\, exhibits\, festivals\, publications\, oral history projects\, videos and other humanities based experiences that reach more than 250\,000 citizens annually. South Carolina Humanities receives funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities as well as corporate\, foundation and individual donors. It is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors comprised of community leaders from throughout the state.

SUMMARY:Magnifying Murder's Collateral Damage (Nisbet Speaker Series)
DESCRIPTION:In 1977\, Sherrerd Hartness ’81 was in college when her 14-year-old sister was murdered. Eventually she returned to Converse to finish her degree. She will discuss the process of recovering from the murder. She will also offer suggestions on how we can learn to listen to and speak more compassionately with those affected directly by violence.  \nShe now has an interior design business and also speaks around the state on the experiences of the families of victims of violent crime. She has spoken numerous times at USC-Columbia\, for law enforcement organizations\, for religious organizations\, and for discussion groups.

DESCRIPTION:In conjunction with Spartanburg’s Spring Fling\, The Crit is a closed-circuit\, multi-lap cycling race known for its open-air plaza center\, dangerously sharp left turns and unique atmosphere! \nThis bike race puts a sweet southern SPIN on the traditional tailgate and turns the heart of the city into a one of a kind block party. Bring your friends\, and tailgate with your Converse friends. Converse is partnering with First Horizon Bank for this event. Guests can wander the streets and drop in tent to tent around the course. For a list of the events visit the Criterium website. \nAdditional Details \n\nApril 26\, 2024 – Converse / First Horizon Tent opens at 5 pm.\nLocated on the Church Street side of the race. Tent # C3\nEnjoy snacks and beverages while they last – adult beverages for those over 21 (with an ID).\nWe had several hundred in attendance last year – would love to have even more.\nCome drop in and see us or make the Converse tent your home base.\nThis is a Do Not Miss event!
