Jesús Garcia to Perform at Converse
On Feb. 24, young American tenor Jesús Garcia will perform at 8 p.m. in Daniel Recital Hall. The performance is for the Friends of the Petrie School of Music, whose members provide vital support to the Petrie School and to Converse College. For membership information, call (864) 596-9021.
Jesús Garcia is currently starring as Rodolfo in the Baz Luhrmann production of La bohème on Broadway and in San Francisco. His voice and elegant stage presence make him ideally suited for leading tenor parts of Mozart operas, and the bel canto and French operatic repertoire.
He has won numerous competitions, including both the George London Foundation competition, and Licia Albanese Foundation competition. He is also the recipient of both the Plácido Domingo Fellowship Award and a Shoshana Foundation Award. He was a winner of the 2001 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. As a student at the Academy of Vocal Arts, he performed the roles of Elvino in La sonnambula, Rodolfo, Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni, and Ferrando. He has also appeared on the television program “Breakfast with the Arts” on the Arts and Entertainment Network.
