Converse students are leaders, creative thinkers, and doers who are looking for more from their college experience. Supported by faculty and staff who are committed to their success, our students participate in research and real-world experiences that will prepare them for successful careers. We believe a rich educational experience should be open to all and help drive our region vibrantly forward.
Meet some of our students and see how Converse will transform your world like it’s transforming theirs.
Chelsea McDonald ‘22
Psychology major, Hispanic Studies minor
Chelsea is a junior psychology major and Hispanic studies minor. She chose Converse based on the welcoming, supportive environment she enjoyed when visiting campus. “From that moment, I knew I needed to be here. I realized how warm and welcoming everyone was,” Chelsea says, “I could fit in by using my voice and sharing my experiences and culture with others and build relationships with people I would never have met.”
Realizing she didn’t know about all the resources Converse has to offer, Chelsea applied to be a Career Peer in the office of Career Development. In her role, Chelsea helps her peers prepare for life after Converse in supporting their career journey from perfecting their cover letter and resume, coaching them through which questions to ask in the interview, and dressing to impress for the interview. Chelsea and the Converse Career Development team help students reach their true potential and obtain career success.
Steven Greer ‘22
Steven is blazing the trail as one of the first men enrolled in Converse as a co-ed institution. As a junior Politics major & transfer student, Steven was inspired by Converse’s tight-knit and personalized environment. “A big part of me wanting to transfer to Converse is that I was emailing and speaking with Admissions staff directly instead of the automated emails I was getting from other schools. It really helped me to know that I ever had a question or wanted to chat that my Admissions Counselor was just a phone call or email away!”
Aside from the connections made at the admission stage, Steven has enjoyed his experience as a student, enjoying the time-honored tradition of Big/Little week. He shares “it’s nice to have a little family at school who supports each other and does fun things together!”
Christi Turner ‘21
Deaf & Hard of Hearing major
Christi is a senior Deaf & Hard of Hearing major and chose her major specifically, since it’s the only program for credentialing teachers of the Deaf and hard of hearing in South Carolina. With the opportunity to learn American Sign Language (ASL), a deeper understanding of Deaf culture in her coursework, and getting hands-on experience at the South Carolina School for the Deaf & Blind, Christi is confident in her skills post-graduation.
As a Spartanburg native, Christi had never considered Converse a viable option for her college journey. Once on campus, her entire thought process shifted. “I came for a visit and I felt so comfortable on campus,” Christi recalls. Through her time at Converse, Christi has had different opportunities to develop her leadership skills as the chair of the Converse Activities Board and as a Presidential Student Ambassador in the Admissions Office as well as the opportunity to travel to different cities within the U.S. as well as studying abroad in Greece. “I couldn’t imagine having all the opportunities I’ve had anywhere else and 18-year-old me would be proud to graduate from an institution like Converse.”
