The Victorians Institute
The Victorians Institute is an organization of scholars and students interested in British literature, culture, and history during the reign of Queen Victoria (1837 - 1901). The Institute sponsors the award winning Victorians Institute Journal (VIJ), as well as an annual meeting that gathers together scholars and students from the U. S. and abroad to focus on a specific theme of interest and importance to Victorian studies. This year’s meeting will be held at Converse College, Oct. 20 and 21, 2006. The general theme is “Gender and Reform in Victorian Culture.” The keynote speaker is Alison Booth, Professor of English at the University of Virginia. Professor Booth’s most recent book is “How to Make It As a Woman: Collective Biographical History from Victoria to the Present,” published by the University of Chicago Press.
