It’s probably not surprising that Converse College will shape who you are and become part of you. That’s true for any good college. But what’s really amazing about Converse is how much you can influence it, how much you can mold your own experiences here. And though there are lots of opportunities to do that here, one of the best is to get involved in student government.

The Student Government Association represents all the interests of the diverse Converse Community—musicians to mathematicians, athletes to artists—and links them to the Administration. Of course you’re already a member of the SGA (every student is!) and you’re welcome to come to the weekly meetings or get more involved. You can serve on the Executive Committee, the Senate or the President’s Council for Organizations. There are also elected Class Officers with specific areas of interest, for example, as a Sophomore Class Officer, you’ll work on the Ring Ceremony, and as a senior, you’ll work on Commencement.

There are also two student-led judicial boards: Civitas and the Honor Board, which respond to violations of Community Values or our Honor Tradition. This is a big deal to us. We’ve been signing our names to an Honor Code since 1916. For us, adhering to and upholding a set of principles is not a quaint idea of the past. It’s a cornerstone of how we live our lives today and a powerful tool to guide us into the future.

Getting involved in any of these committees or boards is a great way to have a positive impact. It’s a direct and empowering way to effect change.
