Sharalynn Hicks is committed to encouraging musicians in their quest for artistic growth. In addition to her teaching at the Lawson Academy, Ms. Hicks is a piano faculty member at Erskine College.

Throughout her teaching career, Ms. Hicks has worked with students of all ages. Her students’ accomplishments include multiple scholarships, awards, and acceptance into recognized schools and programs. In addition to piano and violin, she has taught Kindermusik, theory, form and analysis, choral writing and arranging, history of sacred music, accompanying, musicianship skills, and music appreciation. She also serves as an audition judge for various organizations, including the National Guild of Piano Teachers, and as a masterclass clinician.

M. Hicks holds the M.Mus. degree, having completed programs with a focus in piano performance and composition. She earned a B.Mus. degree and an ARCT in piano performance and is nationally certified in piano with the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA).

Outside of the classroom, Hicks is active in music composition and performance. Her compositions and arrangements include solo, choral, and instrumental works. She frequently serves as a collaborative pianist, including performances for Chamber Music on the Hill and the Hub City Vocal Institute. As a church musician, she has worked as Director of Music and pianist and has directed a number of seasonal programs.

Ms. Hicks also has comprehensive experience in arts administration. For 10 years, she served as the Assistant Director of the Lawson Academy, and she is currently the administrator of the MasterWorks Festival, a four-week residential music festival that draws internationally renowned conductors, artists, and faculty to coach and mentor students from universities, colleges, and conservatories from across the country and the world.
