Converse College and the Petrie School of Music formed a five-year partnership with Huaihua University, a public university located in the Hunan province of China, for eligible Huaihua University students to complete an international study experience at Converse. Officials from Converse and Huaihua University signed the partnership agreement in August on the Converse campus.

Through the partnership, Converse will provide an opportunity for non-degree-seeking international students to enroll in a variety of music courses, as well as a limited number of courses in other areas. Visiting students will participate in the program for up to one year, allowing them to fully appreciate and benefit from the Converse College experience.

“There are lots of dedicated and passionate music students at Huaihua University, and I know they’ll give a unique perspective to our programs.”

“As a musician, I find it incredibly exciting to be entering into a partnership with an institution like Huaihua University,” said Christopher Vaneman, Head of the Petrie School of Music at Converse College. “There are lots of dedicated and passionate music students at Huaihua University, and I know they’ll give a unique perspective to our programs. At the same time, we’ll be able to offer them training at the highest level, and they’ll be able to take that training back to China.”

The mutually-beneficial partnership will enrich the entire Converse community by providing talented musicians to participate in the Petrie School, and will provide multi-cultural experiences for students from both universities. Visiting Huaihua students will contribute to the diverse, vibrant academics and activities on the Converse campus, then return to China to share the knowledge and experiences from their time here with their families and peers.
