Program Support

In order to become the leader in the cultivation and development of creative thinking and problem-solving across all disciplines in and out of the classroom, Converse must expand and strengthen our academic programs, study-travel offerings, student-faculty research and enhance our student-life programs.

Center for Student Development and Success

The Center for Student Development and Success, located in the Montgomery Student Center, serves to advance Converse students towards success in academic, personal and professional areas. The Center provides first-year student programs such as academic advising with special workshops on “Choosing a Major” and the Student Success Seminar. Other programs offer alumnae networking and mentoring programs, internship opportunities and tutoring. The Center for Student Development and Success works to meet the needs of all our students, wherever they are in their academic and personal development journeys.

Study-Travel Opportunities

Converse has set a goal of expanding international study experiences across campus with a target of 60% of Converse graduates participating in study-travel by 2012. Research and our own student evaluations show that students who study abroad find it to be a life-changing experience and one of the most rewarding things they have ever done. To attain this goal will require a substantial investment in our international programs.

Expansion of Athletic Programs – Golf and Equitation

The Converse athletics program has experienced phenomenal growth since its revitalization in 2001, quickly growing from five to seven sports. A record 25% of incoming students in fall 2009 are student-athletes. The addition of golf and equitation to the competitive sports available at Converse will have an immediate, direct and positive impact on recruitment. Start-up costs for each program must be obtained prior to adding these sports to the College’s roster of competitive sports.

Student-Faculty Research

The quality of research projects developed through student-faculty partnerships is a distinctive mark of the Converse education. Such projects provide innovative hands-on learning opportunities that result in tremendous success for students in their applications for graduate schools and fellowship funding.

Center for Creative Thinking, Teaching and Learning

The Converse Center for Creative Thinking, Teaching and Learning provides on-campus financial and content support for cultivating creativity in course development, teaching techniques, departmental operations and programs and developing campus-wide creativity initiatives.
