Capital Projects

The vision for Converse College in the year 2012 and beyond is to become the most creative college in the Southeast for producing engaged citizens who effective positive change. Our Strategic Plan, adopted in November 2007, outlines specific goals, including the improvement of student housing and our physical plant.

We recently completed extensive renovations to Kuhn Hall, the College’s first LEED-certified academic building and on October 30, 2009, broke ground on apartment housing for seniors. This new housing aims to nurture the burgeoning independence of senior-year students, while simultaneously concluding their undergraduate days in trademark Converse style—with an emphasis on community and creativity. These apartments will be Converse's second LEED-certified building project, advancing our commitment to sustainability.

Acknowledging that access to a diverse menu of housing options has become an increasingly important consideration during the college selection process for students and the quality of on-campus life, we will move to the design phase for renovation of our historic residence halls—Pell and Dexter—for first-year students. Enhancements to housing for the sophomore and junior classes will follow.

With technology developments changing rapidly and becoming increasingly necessary tools for advanced and innovative teaching, it is vital that we assures campus-wide implementation of the latest technologies—in classrooms, administrative offices and on-line systems.
