4-24-07 Deadlines for Preparing to Student Teach in  Fall 2008
Students must apply for certification a year in advance of the term in which they plan to student teach. The deadline for Fall 2008 student teaching is December 1, 2007. You may obtain certification packets from Sheran Steading in Carmichael 101. If you have questions, please direct them to Sheran Steading.

5-1-07 Application to Teacher Education
If a candidate has met all criteria for applying to Teacher Education, but is currently completing Clinical I, the candidate may submit an application for admissions, before finishing the clinical.

5-1-07 Deadline for Summer 2007 Graduate Graduation
The deadline for degree applications for all graduate students finishing their programs in spring, summer I, or summer II is Tuesday, May 15, 2007. The graduation fee of $150.00 will be billed to your account by the Business Office this summer. A $25.00 late fee will be added for all applications received after the May 15 deadline. You MUST apply to graduate, even if you do not plan to participate in the commencement ceremony.

4-26-07 Directed Independent Study Policy
The School of Education and Graduate Studies adopted a new Independent Study Policy. If you are planning on requesting a DIS check the policy before registration to be sure that you meet the qualification criteria.

Clinical Sign-Up Procedure
1. Register with the Office of the Registrar. You may not request a placement until you are officially registered for the course. You must register for a course, even if the clinical carries no credit. The sooner you register, the better.
2. Open student.converse.edu in your browser. Click on the link in the lower left-hand corner under Education Department. Follow the simple directions for your request.
3. Check back at the site just before the term begins to find out your placement.

5-1-07 New Procedure for Requesting Clinical Exemption

  1. The student submits a written petition with supporting documentation to the Clinical Professor.
  2. The Clinical Professor (with the input of the Director of Clinical Experiences) determines whether or not the student is eligible to exempt the clinical.
  3. If the student is eligible, then the Clinical Professor, Director of Clinical Experiences, and student sign the Clinical Exemption Eligibility Form.
  4. The student completes program assessments required for the clinical and submits them with the Clinical Exemption Eligibility Form to the Clinical Professor.
  5. After grading the assessments, the Clinical Professor initials and submits the Clinical Exemption Eligibility Form to the Administrative Assistant for Teacher Education who will enter the clinical exemption on the Program Worksheet in the student’s cumulative file.

5-1-07 Minority Teacher Educator Visiting Instructor-in-Residence Program
Christina  Hunter has been selected to serve a second year as  theMinority Teacher Educator Visiting Instructor-in-Residence . The Program has been designated to bring experienced minority teachers to Converse for a one-or two-year residency. Those selected for this program will provide educational services to increase the knowledge of undergraduate and graduate students in teacher education in the areas of multi-culturalism, diversity, and ethnic differences. Activities may include classroom instruction, presentations in appropriate teacher education courses, advising, student teaching supervision, portfolio evaluation, and other services that will contribute to the Teacher Education Unit’s Diversity Standard to develop The Ideal Educator, a graduate who demonstrates knowledge of a) culturally diverse students, b) students with exceptionalities, and c) students with different learning styles. Successful candidates for this program must be able to contribute to the diversity standard for Converse teacher education programs. For more information, click here.
