| Dr. Joe Pitts earned his doctorate in 1992 with a Ph.D. in Elementary Education from the University of South Carolina. Prior to coming to Converse College he was Chair of the Elementary Education Department at North Greenville University, teaching methodology courses, supervising student teachers, field experiences, member of the Advisory Council and sponsor of the Beta Delta Club, which is the honor Society for the International Reading Association. Dr. Pitts taught 11 years at Limestone College in Gaffney where he was Associate Professor of Education and Director of the Program for Alternative Learning Styles (PALS). Also while at Limestone he earned the Fullerton Teaching Award, the Harper’s Teacher Recruitment Award, and in 1997 he was honored with the Governor’s Distinguished Professor Award.
Professor Pitts currently teaches methodology courses and supervises practicum students. He has published three articles and has made over 20 presentations at different national, state, and local conferences. He has served on the SCIRA board, the IRA board as committee member, many local boards, and from 1997-1999 served on the Editorial Board of The Teacher Education Journal of South Carolina. |
