David Wayne Cheser serves as Director of Early Childhood Education at Converse College. Dr. Cheser has traveled extensively in Middle America, Europe, and Africa. After receiving his Doctor of Philosophy from George Peabody College of Vanderbilt University, he moved to South Carolina and has taught both undergraduate and graduate level courses in Early Childhood/Elementary Education at Converse College since 1979.

Dr. Cheser has served as the evaluator of numerous empirical studies and grant projects, has co-authored a health curriculum book, has served on the faculty senate, admissions committees, and a host of other vital committees at Converse College. His hands-on approach to teaching and learning in Converse's Teacher Education Programs allows him and his students to visit local early childhood centers/schools to best study and observe real children and their learning environments. Since 1979, 100 percent of students majoring in Early Childhood Education at Converse College have passed the certification exam.
