The home stretch… literally.

Next Wednesday I will be in my car driving down I-26… free!... headed home to my family (who I have not seen since fall break). For me, this means keeping my nose to the grindstone for the week to come so that I have a chance to enjoy the break instead of staying buried in books. On the home front, this means that my brother has begun his official countdown for “Nicole and Aimée coming home for Thanksgiving.” My brother, you see, is a creature of habit. He likes routine, and he likes deadlines. He knows that his birthday comes after my dad’s, but the span between early June and the dead end of July means nothing to him. As soon as one holiday or event is over, the next is already on his mind. Because of this, once we can put a tangible, comprehensible number of days on an event, he gets very excited. I have to admit that I’ve also got a bit of a countdown going myself. I’m greatly looking forward to going home, especially since my visits back home to Charleston have become increasingly more scarce since freshman year. I guess I can attribute that to several factors: taking harder classes and having more work to do, becoming more involved on campus, and adjusting more to life at Converse. It’s not to say that I don’t miss my family; rather, I’ve just become more accustomed to not seeing them as frequently, which brings me to some recent (and very exciting) news: last week, I was offered – and accepted – the position of Student Orientation Coordinator for 2009! This not only means that I’ll be working to plan for New Student Orientation for the class of 2013, but it also means I’ll be living in Spartanburg this summer, working in Campus Life. It will definitely be a change for me, but I’m EXTREMELY excited about this opportunity! ☺

In other upcoming news, Peppermint Ball (our annual winter formal) is this coming Saturday! This is definitely one of my favorite events of the year, but it is so hard to believe that it’s already here. It’s ridiculous how quickly this semester has gone by! But I will definitely have some great stories and lots of pictures for you in my next blog… so stay tuned for all the excitement!
