Coach Steve cook came to Converse in September of 2007. Cook, a veteran coach who hails from Greenville, SC, continues to lead Valkyries tennis program.

Cook has served as head boys tennis coach at Greenville High School for the past six years, taking over a program that had struggled for several years. During his tenure at the helm of the Greenville program, Cook’s team won five conference championships, two upper-state championships and two team state-finalist finishes. He was named Region Coach of the Year five times. “I am excited about working with the Converse tennis team and helping them to improve in strategy, footwork and consistency. We hope to once again qualify for the Carolina Conference tournament,” said Cook.

As a businessman Cook has served as sales manager for a national mortgage company and was broker/owner of a real estate company in South Carolina.

A member of the United States Professional Tennis Association, Cook has served as director of tennis at several clubs and resorts. He has worked with numerous state and nationally ranked junior and college players, spoken at tennis seminars and served as guest coach at the Duke University tennis camp.

A native of Midland, Michigan, Cook played varsity tennis at The University of West Florida where he earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing and was elected to serve on Student Government. Cook played team tennis in Munich, Germany in 1983 and is a former South Carolina State Doubles Champion. He lives in Greenville, SC.
