
SPARTANBURG, SC- Brittany Cox had an impressive double-double with 32 points and 13 rebounds, as she led the Falcons of Pfeiffer University past the Converse College Valkyries on Saturday at the Tom and Tracy Hannah Gymnasium, 90-64. The Falcons move to 11-9 overall and 6-5 in Conference Carolinas play, while the Valkyries drop to 2-18 overall and 2-9 in the conference.
The lead swung back and forth in the first 11 minutes of the first-half, and the game was knotted up at 18-18 with 9:02 remaining in the half. Led by Cox and Haley Grimsley, the Falcons went on a 20-6 run over the next five minutes of play and closed out the half with a 49-32 lead. In the second-half the Falcons were able to extend their lead as Converse struggled from the floor, shooting 27.3 percent in the second period. Despite a few runs by the Valkyries, Pfeiffer kept their foot on the gas and finished out the game with the final score, 90-64.
Freshman Colleen Leung (Charleston, SC) led the purple and gold with 14 points and six rebounds on the night. Sophomore Samira Gillcrese (Florence, SC), junior Jasmine Middlebrooks (Atlanta, GA), and freshman Chelsea Rivers (Frankfort, KY) each added 10 points, while Gillcrese also had 6 rebounds.
For the Falcons, Cox was helped by Kaela Bellefeuil and Shelley Reese who scored 14 and 11 points, respectively. Jodie Lemons was second on the team in rebounding with nine boards, and added eight points.
The Valkyries will next take the floor when they host the Tornados of King College on Monday, Feb. 6 at 5:30pm.
