11 Valkyries Score in Win Over Lees-McRae

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Converse College lacrosse team turned what was a first-half back and forth battle into a blowout Saturday afternoon, outscoring Lees-McRae 10-4 in the final 30 minutes to drop the Bobcats to 2-10 overall. The Valkyries improve to 3-13 with the dominating 22-14, victory.

The Bobcats would take advantage of three free-position shots in the first 6 minutes of the game with goals by Katelin Rooney, Amanda Harkness, and Lexi King putting them up 3-0. Lees-McRae would retain their lead until 9 minutes left in the half when sophomore Lindsey Reuss (Simpsonville, SC) would score the go ahead goal.

Lacey Bevilacqua (Carlsbad, CA) would notch a hat-trick in the first half while teammates Brianna Hoffman (Simpsonville, SC), Cassie Fara (Simpsonville, SC), Page Fortuna (Mt. Pleasant, SC), and Brooke Bondurant (Marietta, GA) all would add two goals. The Valkyries would out shoot the Bobcats, 26-16.

Converse’s first goal of the second half would come within the first two minutes as Sam Green (Burlington, MA) would find the back of the net from a bullet pass by Page Fortuna.

Over the next four minutes, Alyssa Savitz (Orlando, FL) would record two goals with teammates Nikki Carmack (Potamac Falls, VA) and Candace Gilliland (Simpsonville, SC) each scoring one.

Lacy Bevilacqua wasn’t satisfied with the hat trick from the first half and would add a second hat trick in the second half, notching three goals over the span of 2 minutes to put the Valkyries up 20-11.

Brooke Bondurant would earn her hat trick with an aggressive spin move just outside the cress with only 3 seconds left in the game, to give a final score of 22-13.

Converse will finish their regular season Tuesday, at home against the Saints of Limestone with a 6pm start.
