GREENWOOD, SC- The Converse College Equestrian Team competed at the Lander University Equestrian center on the weekend of October 30-31. Freshman Kathleen Coker highlighted the day for the Valkyries with her 1st place finish in the novice equitation flat, and 2nd place finish in the novice over fences. Coker was awarded the High Point honor for Saturday’s competition.
“We had a great showing this weekend,” stated equestrian program director, Sally Frick. “Kathleen had a very strong day, and all of our women represented Converse very well.”
Sophomore Sallie Katherine Thompson had a solid performance, finishing 3rd on Saturday and 5th on Sunday in the intermediate over fences competition. Thompson also tallied a 3rd place finish in the intermediate equitation flat. Mattie Martin and Claire Kunkler finished 1st and 3rd respectively in O/F, and 2nd and 3rd respectively in the novice equitation flat.
The Valkyries had a strong showing in the walk/trot/cater competition with Meredith Walker finishing 3rd on Saturday, Laura Herring finishing 4th on Saturday, Miranda Tobiason finishing 5th on Saturday and 3rd on Sunday , and Sarah Kate Chatel finshing 5th on Sunday.
Converse has a long training stint ahead of them as they prepare for their next competition on February 12-13
