Volleyball Looks for Strong Start to Season
SPARTANBURG, S.C.- The Valkyries volleyball squad is looking forward to the start of regular season play, after a strong preseason with scrimmage wins against North Greenville and Spartanburg Methodist.
Head coach Regina Schantz begins her second season at the helm of the program, and is joined on the bench by first year assistant coach, Jessica Brady. "Having Coach Brady as our assistant will help bring a faster offense to our already strong defensive game," stated Schantz.
The Valkyries will be led by key returners Katherine Buehler, Brianna Scalf, and Lauren Hunsberger, who will join long list of newcomers headlined by junior transfer Val Thoms.
The coaching staff is anxious to carry the team's preseason success over into regular season and Conference Carolinas play.
"The work ethic and overall morale of our team this year exceeds all of our expectations," claimed Schantz. "We have brought in immediate impact players that will take our team to the next level in our conference. Watching the preseason scrimmages has allowed us to consistently raise the bar each day for our players. It has been an exciting growth period to watch such a young team excel and compete against strong teams across the state. "
They will open the season against the Brevard College Tornados of the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) on Thursday, September 2nd at 6:30pm.
