Cross Country Ready for First Meet
SPARTANBURG, S.C.-The Converse College cross country team will open their season this Saturday at the Eye Opener Invitational in Spartanburg, SC. This event, which is hosted by USC Upstate, has become the largest invitational in the state of South Carolina with over 20 colleges and 56 high schools competing in the event in 2009.
"I am excited about this weekend," said first year head coach Andrew Burnette. "Our first few weeks of practice has gone well, but there is no substitution for competition."
The Valkyries will be paced by senior Brittany Hogue (Spartanburg, SC), junior Samantha Nicholson (Duncan, SC), and freshman Jessica Postlewaite (Fishers, IN).
"We have some really good runners up front with Jessica,Brittany, and Samantha. At the same time we have a great deal of depth, and I think our team can surprise some people this season," claimed Burnette.
