Valkyries Tennis Team Records First Win of the Season
Gaffney, SC – The Converse College tennis team traveled to Limestone College Wednesday, March 3 for a make-up match cancelled in late February due to weather. Despite temperatures that were still unusually cold, the Valkyries came in with confidence and determination, winning the match 5-4.
Number one doubles duo Olivia Self (Greenville, SC) and Lindsey Kelly (Camden, SC) won their match 8-1. Number three doubles Gulia Yuldasheva (SR Moscow, Russia) and Jennifer Campa (Bluffton, SC) also posted a win of 8-1.
Limestone would then take one, two, and three singles. However, Converse wasn’t willing to give up that easily with number 4 singles player Gulia Yuldasheva, number 5 singles Frani Mayer (Peru) and number 6 singles Mary English (SR Blenheim, SC) all winning their matches sealing Converse’s triumph over Limestone.
“I was very proud of my girls. They came out and played a great match in the blistering cold and brought back a victory. We needed this as a team and I am excited to see what the upcoming matches bring,” said Head Coach Steve Cook.
The Valkyries will host Barton College at 3:00 PM on March 5.
