Swimmers Head to Conference Championship Meet
The Converse College swim squad will head to Charlotte, NC to compete in the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championship Meet held at the Meckleberg Aquatic Center this Wednesday, February 17 thru Saturday, February 20. The event will go down in the Valkyries history books as the first ever conference championship meet for the team which is just in its second competitive year.
Converse's small squad will compete for three days against several other regional NCAA Division II and Division III programs. Each swimmer is charging up for what could be one of the most important contests for the developing squad. "We've had an exceptional season so far," said head coach Susan Kunkler. "I want to see them reach the personal goals they've set and I expect that we'll see some personal bests this weekend."
Friday, February 18th should be the strongest day for the Valkyries as the team's standout freshmen look to make NCAA cuts in individual events that will earn bids to the national meet later this year.
"Everyone will play a vital role in how we fare this weekend and they know every point counts," said Kunkler. "These women know the sacrifices they have made and I know we'll see some fierce competition from our swimmers."
From already making NCAA 'B' standard cuts to grabbing conference swimmer of the week honors, all eyes will be on the Valkyries swim squad as they make their debut at conference, ready to outpace and out-touch anyone wearing a different uniform.
