Soccer Unable to Stop Saints, Seniors Honored

Spartanburg, SC-- Valkyries soccer closed out the season Saturday afternoon with a loss to conference rival Limestone College. Converse fell 2-1 in an evenly matched rainy game that barely swung in favor of the Saints. Limestone moves up to 7-10 on the season while Converse wraps things up at 3-17.

The first 16 minutes of the match was scoreless until Limestone's Bekki Hagarman grabbed a solid serve from Madi Dulisse to go up 1-0. Converse battled midfield with the Saints until Freudna Mathurin, with the help of Mary Kathryn Hemphill, answered Saints' first goal with a shot from the box to even the score 1-1. Ten more minutes of unlucky shots from great scoring opportunities and midfield battles ensued until Limestone found the back of the Valkyries net on an unassisted shot delivered by Ashley Alderin-Fleagle. Converse hammered through the remaing game and placed several shots but was unable to answer the goal and fell 2-1 at the horn.

Converse outshot Limestone 10-7. Limestone drew 19 fouls (compared to Converse's 10) during the match. Saints goalie Brittany Clark managed 6 saves while Valkyries netminder Michelle Wilson had 2 total saves.

The last match of the season also served as a special time to honor two senior soccer players who will graduate this Spring. Megan Murphy of Mooresville, NC and Michelle Wilson from Cayce, SC both transfered to Converse and played two years under head coach Rob Depaol.
