Theatre & Dance

Theatre and dance productions have been part of the fabric of the Converse since our founding. While our productions range from familiar classics to the very best in challenging, imaginative new works for the stage, we pride ourselves in showcasing the work of student actors, dancers, choreographers, playwrights, directors and designers. Auditions are open to any Converse student regardless of major, and we often extend our casting calls to the wider Spartanburg community.

Whether you’re front row center or center stage, you’ll find the facilities at Converse are truly excellent. The historic Hazel B. Abbott Theatre has hosted Converse’s major theatrical productions for over 100 years. For more intimate productions and experimental works, there’s our “black box” Laird Studio Theatre. We also have an air-conditioned prop, scene, and costume shops and a dance studio with sprung floor.

Our theater department has a big voice that calls out in many ways—dance recitals to attend, one-acts to write, major dramas and musicals to produce or applaud. Hear it call for you at our list of Calendar of Events.
