You are an aspiring novelist or memoirist, a columnist, journalist or poet. You love curling up with a novel, pouring over sonnets, delving into magazine articles, unearthing metaphors in free verse. You love the spoken word, too, whether from the poet at the lectern or the actor on the stage. You understand that writing and reading well reflect the way a person has learned to think, feel, and interpret the world. And you, with your passion for words and stories, have a welcoming family at Converse.
Our intensive and stimulating creative writing program prepares our undergraduate students for career as writers, editors, literary agents, journalists and publishers. Concept, our student-edited literary magazine, offers them additional opportunity to hone their craft. For independent writers ready to make an even deeper commitment to the literary life, our Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing provides opportunities to develop their art even further.
Converse’s Visiting Writers Series gives aspiring authors and lovers of literature the opportunity to get to know writers, poets and editors from a variety of genres. Hear Joyce Carol Oates read an excerpt from a novel or Robert Wrigley discuss poetry. Talk with authors, journalists, and playwrights, ask questions, and receive advice. These free events, which provide personal contact with Pulitzer Prize winners, Book-of-the-Month Club Authors, and Rockefeller Grant recipients, will entertain, educate and inspire you.
