Converse is a dynamo of opportunity and a great liberal arts college. But it’s also part of something bigger: Spartanburg. We study and live here on campus, but we build a world and a community by shopping, eating out, and meeting new friends in our hometown. In return for the exciting possibilities Spartanburg offers us, we like to create a little excitement for Spartanburg. That’s why almost all of our music, theatre and arts events are open to the public.
There are public events on campus all the time—a reading by an award-winning poet, a new dramatic take on Dracula, a collection of abstract paintings, fully staged operas—and many more. No matter whether you love creative writing, music, theatre and dance, the visual arts, or all of the above, your calendar will be full.
Members of the Spartanburg community can study the arts at Converse, as well. Our Lawson Academy of the Arts offers classes and private lessons to youth and adults in a wide variety of subjects. A professional, inspiring, and nurturing environment, it also serves as a hands-on training ground for introducing Converse music and dance students to the experience of teaching.
So, whether you are a full-time student here, or just in town for the weekend, check out our Calendar of Events and experience the wonderfully energized and artistic side of Converse.
