Converse College’s Education Specialist (EdS) in Administration and Supervision (elementary & secondary) is a program designed to prepare competent and effective leaders in all phases of school leadership and administration. Individuals interested in moving from the classroom to an administrative position—such as principal—will find this a challenging avenue of preparation. The Converse College Department of Education is accredited by the South Carolina Department of Education and the Council for the Accreditation for Educator Preparation (CAEP).
Our Education Specialist in Administration and Supervision Program is designed to meet students at their present level and guide them through a quality course of study aimed at making them knowledgeable and employable as school administrators. Our courses are taught by veteran school and district administrators who understand the theory of school administration and who have been in leadership roles. Through theoretical knowledge and practical experiences, our students develop the skills to become successful and effective school administrators.
Students who already possess a Master’s degree in another area may enroll in the Education Specialist Program, allowing them to build upon their previous post-graduate work.

Our on-campus Education Specialist degree in Administration & Supervision is a sixth-year program of 36 semester hours in education. The program focuses on the preparation of administrators/supervisors at the elementary or secondary level. The program focuses on the preparation for certification as administrators/supervisors at the elementary or secondary level. At the conclusion of this program, students will undertake an extensive administrative internship in an appropriate public school setting in order to apply their administrative skills to the instructional leadership dimension of public education.
The special focus of this program is in the preparation of administrative educational leaders. Students will become knowledgeable in school leadership, supervision and evaluation, school-community relations, education law, human resource management, and school finance.

Applicants must have the following:
- A valid teacher’s certificate
- Three years of teaching experience
- An appropriate master’s degree for teaching at the elementary or secondary school level
- A 3.0 GPA in their master’s degree from an accredited institution
For consideration of admission, the applicant should have the following credentials:
- A completed online application, including the $40 application fee
- Official undergraduate and graduate transcripts from all colleges attended
- NTE/Praxis II scores
- Three letters of recommendation
- *A personal statement
- Copy of teaching certificate

In keeping with the Honor Tradition at Converse, your essay must be entirely your own work. Please be specific on how Converse can help you become the “Ideal” Educator, taking special care to organize your essay clearly and proofread your work. The personal statement should be submitted as a part of the application or emailed to the Office of Graduate Admission.
