The U.S. Department of Education recently announced that the IRS Data Retrieval Tool has been disabled indefinitely for the 2017 – 2018 FAFSA filing season. The IRS DRT is not expected the become available until the start of the 2018 – 2019 FAFSA filing season (October 2017).
You can still complete your FAFSA and should do so as soon as possible if you have not completed. Please remember: you and your parent(s) will use your 2015 federal tax information and must enter the information into the FAFSA manually using your 2015 federal 1040 forms.
If you are selected for verification, the Financial Planning Office will accept signed copies of the filed federal 1040 forms until a federal tax transcript can be obtained. Estimated awards will be made from this information but no disbursement of aid can be made until the transcripts are provided.
A summary of a previously filed tax return, called a tax transcript, may be viewed and downloaded from www.irs.gov/transcript at Get Transcript Online, with the proper identity verification. Additionally, Get Transcript by Mail can be accessed online, or the taxpayer can call 1-800-908-9946, and a transcript will be delivered to the address of record within five to 10 days.
