Live with the locals in Mexico or study volcanoes and exotic animals in Ecuador. Immerse yourself in Parisian and Italian art and culture or look for vampires in Budapest. With Converse College’s study abroad and study travel programs, there are literally opportunities around the world.

At Converse, you can spend a semester or even an entire school year living and studying in another country. You earn course credit towards your degree, uncover old mysteries, and discover whole new worlds. A recent group of art history students arranged a private tour of 15th century frescos in a Roman convent. One student conducted her senior seminar on the plants of Southern France in Avignon. In most instances, you’ll be a full time student at a host country university and transfer the credits back to Converse.

Our four-week January Term is a perfect time for a shorter trip. You can go to Japan to learn about business culture and tea ceremonies, or New York City for art and design. These trips are innovative and often interdisciplinary; Converse professors from different fields guide your travel, team-teach the courses, and engage you in the culture through readings, art, journaling and discussion.

Some of our trips involve mission work, from Habitat for Humanity projects here in the U.S. to service learning trips in Peru. Not all these trips earn you credit but they help you with language skills and provide valuable lessons in economics, religion and sociology.

Learning about other peoples and cultures gives you great insight into your field of study. It helps you understand humanity and be more compassionate. But most powerful is what it teaches you about yourself. Check out our Study Abroad newsletters for the latest travel options and even look into financial aid for study abroad, including the Chapman Study Abroad Experience Endowment, and find out what the world can teach you.
