What does confidentiality mean?
When you speak with a counselor, that communication is protected by confidentiality. The counselor will not reveal any information about you to an outside party without your written permission. So, if your parents, a roommate, a friend, or even a college official calls a counselor to inquire after you, the counselors will not release any information without your consent. However, counselors must take action when someone’s life is at risk or when there is an apparent case of current child abuse even if confidentiality must be broken. For more information, simply consult with one of the counselors.
