We look forward to meeting you and getting to know you personally over the next four years. Our hope is this relationship can begin to grow prior to Fall 2008, and to do this Campus Life is offering three summer programs for first year students. These programs are intentionally designed to foster community, develop leadership skills, and begin to introduce you to your future classmates. If you are excited about coming to Converse, one of these three programs is the program for you!!!

 


 

Summer Adventure

June 24 – June 27
Join other first year students for a three - day outdoor adventure program. Students will begin to create friendships, build confidence, and interpersonal skills while participating in outdoor activities including ropes course, white water rafting, and hiking. More details will follow.

Cost: $200
Registration Deadline: June 16th

 

Summer Adventure is an optional program and does not take the place of your required orientation program. You will receive more information about orientation later in the summer. We hope you will join us for this exciting program! Space is limited so, please send your registration form and payment as soon as possible. Reservations will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.

 

Tentative Schedule

  • RaftingDay 1—June 24:
    Arrive at Converse between 8:00 – 10:00 am. After some initial introductions, we will pack up and load onto a charter bus to head to the Nantahala Outdoor Center. On the way, we will pull off and enjoy a hike in the North Carolina mountains. We will spend our first night in a cabin at the Nantahala Outdoor Center.
  • Day 2—June 25:
    The group will participate in a fully guided rafting trip down the Nantahala River.
  • Day 3—June 26:
    The group will participate in a full day of ropes course activities. This course will include some team building activities as a group, as well as, some individual ropes course activities.
  • Day 4—June 27:
    Before leaving for Converse, the group will participate in a final wrap up and reflection activity. We will arrive to campus by 12:30 for lunch and depart from Converse at 3:00 pm.

 


 

Summer Serve

July 10 – 12
Students serve in the community of Spartanburg for three days at a variety of community agencies such as Habitat for Humanity, Humane Society, and Second Presbyterian Soup Kitchen.  Students also participate in teambuilding activities and service reflection. This is an excellent opportunity to bond with your classmates before the school year starts.

Summer Lead

July 24 – 26
Students will spend three days in leadership workshops designed around the book 7 Habits for Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey. Students will develop leadership skills integral to success in college and connections that will aid them as they begin their college experience.
