In anticipation of the heightened threat that war brings to our country, Converse has been carefully preparing for emergency situations that may arise on campus. We learned much from our experience during September 11 and during the ice storm this winter that has been helpful in our efforts. Although we cannot prepare for every possibility that may come our way, we can ensure that proper plans are in place and that all within our community are well informed.
Converse has long had an Emergency Preparedness/Disaster Plan that guides College administrators in the protection of lives and property. Converse also works in close partnership with government organizations. In the event of an emergency, county and city resources such as police, fire department, EMS, and hospitals are available to Converse.
This winter, a special emergency preparedness committee was appointed to discuss practical and logical steps that the College should take to prepare for these difficult times.
This committee has also compiled and posted in every classroom the Emergency Awareness Information and
Instructions to ensure that everyone on our campus is fully informed.

I encourage you not to significantly alter your daily activities during these
times. To this end, there are no plans to interrupt the regular class schedule at this time. The Faculty has been encouraged to be flexible in allowing class discussions on the events around us as needed.
Although life at Converse will continue to follow its usual path, there are precautionary steps you may wish to take. These are outlined in the
Emergency Awareness Information and
Instructions document and I encourage you to consider them. Of particular importance is your personal emergency communications plan with family and friends. If you have not already done so, please form a mutual understanding with those closest to you about how you will communicate in the event of an emergency. Similarly, please keep these people informed of your whereabouts throughout this time of unrest.
The Emergency Awareness Information and
Instructions outline the methods in which Converse will communicate with the campus in an emergency situation. I urge you to be proactive in monitoring your E-mail, voicemail, and the Converse website during this time, as these will be the primary outlets through which information will be relayed.
In closing, I remind you that times like these often cause anxiety and tensions to run high, but they also remind us of the strength we find as a community when we join together.
