THE CAMP
The Lawson Pre-College Fine Arts Day Camp features traditional games, food, and fun in an exciting, creative atmosphere. We provide all-day, well-supervised care in an artistic environment that is an excellent alternative to traditional daycare. Children attend daily classes in art, music, theater, creative writing, and dance, offered in an interactive setting and format. By dividing camp into three two-week sessions, we provide a flexible program to fit your summer schedule. The lessons and activities in each session will revolve around a selected theme in order to help the campers form connections among the subject areas. Thus campers who attend all three sessions will experience something fresh and new each session, while those who attend only one session will still receive a rich experience that can stand alone. We invite family members of all campers to enjoy a program at the end of each session in which our students showcase what they have learned and created. |

THE GOAL
We strive to build on our campers¹ budding creativity and to introduce them to new avenues of art. Our goal is to provide a personal atmosphere in which students can have fun and learn cooperatively. Camp is staffed by highly-recommended fine arts and education students from Converse College who serve as teachers and counselors. While these students have received training in their respective fields and are fully capable of producing quality lessons to enrich your child¹s experience, this is also an excellent experience for further cultivating the teachers of tomorrow.

MUSIC
General music classes provide an introduction to many different areas of music. A session of camp could include singing, learning about composers, listening to various types of music and instrument demonstrations.

THEATRE
A special variety of activities including puppetry, prop and costume design, improvization and stage make-up creates an exciting program in theatre.

VISUAL ARTS
Campers will have the opportunity to experience many visual art mediums. Drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, watercolor, papier-maché and weaving are some of our class activities. Campers will also learn about art history.

CREATIVE WRITING
Many activities are planned to make writing fun and exciting. Campers may have the opportunity to keep a journal, create poetry, make up new endings to old stories or create their own comic strip. They could also write their own exaggerations, limericks or tongue twisters. Activities are carefully planned for rising kindergarten and first graders to include children who are not yet able to read.

DANCE
Campers enjoy a wide variety of dance movements including modern, jazz and ballet styles. Campers use these skills to prepare a dance for Family Day.

SMALL GROUP
This class focuses on having fun and developing friendships. Small group time can be used to create special projects, to play sports and games and much more.

FAMILY DAY
Each camp session will culminate in a Family Day program for the campers to share what they have learned. Parents, relatives and friends are invited for a program of theatre, music, and dance and an exhibition of art and creative writing projects.
