John Turnbull is an Emeriti Associate Professor of Organ and Theory.
He holds degrees in organ and piano from the University of Oklahoma and the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the Eastman School of Music of the University of Rochester. He
studied organ and harpsichord at the Amsterdam Conservatory as a Fulbright Scholar in the Netherlands.
He has also received the Performer's Certificate and the Artist Diploma
from the Eastman School of Music.
Dr. Turnbull's principal teachers have been Mildred Andrews, Sylvia Zaremba, Russel Saunders, and Gustav Leonhardt.
Prior to coming to Converse College, Dr. Turnbull taught on the faculties of Luther College and Eastern Kentucky University and was organist/choirmaster for five years at the First Presbyterian Church in Laurel, Mississippi. He was a winner of the
Southwestern Regional Organ Playing Competition of the American Guild of Organists and has appeared as recitalist at many of that organization's conventions.
