Paula Morgan is Director of the Alia Lawson Pre-College Program at Converse College. The Pre-College provides many of our Music Majors the Opportunity to gain invaluable experience by teaching through our program, which serves approximately 700 students per term from the greater Spartanburg area.

Mrs. Morgan began her teaching career in this very program while attending Converse as a Bachelor of Music student with a major in Piano Performance. She married, settled in Spartanburg and also completed a Masters degree in Piano Performance in 1975 having studied with Dr. George Lucktenberg for both degrees.

Mrs. Morgan, originally from New Orleans, Louisiana, came to Converse at the recommendation of her Pre-College piano teacher, Jane Smisor Bastien, who knew of the outstanding reputation of both its School of Music and Liberal Arts College. After graduating, Mrs. Morgan continued to teach in the Pre-College program, building a large piano studio and gaining a fine reputation. In 1991, Mrs. Morgan left the Pre-College to open her own studio in the community only to return in 1993 as its director.

She continues to teach and to perform, her most current venture as a piano duo artist with Dr. Douglas Weeks, an outstanding pianist and teacher on the faculty here at Converse.
