Jeff Kuntz is the Interim Director of Bands at the Petrie School of
Music. He is the conductor of the Converse Wind Ensemble and Chamber
Winds, and teaches brass techniques and advanced conducting in the music
education department.
Mr. Kuntz has 17 years of experience as a public school band director in
Florida and South Carolina. He currently also serves as Director of
Bands at L.E. Gable Middle School in Roebuck, and he is Director of the
Dorman High School Jazz Ensemble. Since 2003, Mr. Kuntz has served on
the Executive Board of the South Carolina Band Directors Association as
the Jazz Events Chairman.
Mr. Kuntz is an active performer on trombone, euphonium, viola,
percussion, and voice. Since 2000, he has performed regularly with the
Converse Wind Ensemble, Converse Symphony Orchestra, and Converse Opera.
He has also been very active with community theatre in Spartanburg. In
2002, Mr. Kuntz performed the role of “Antonio” in the Spartanburg
Repertory Company’s production of The Marriage of Figaro, and in 2004 he
was the orchestra conductor for Ballet Spartanburg’s production of West
Side Story. Mr. Kuntz is a member of the Chancel Choir at First
Presbyterian Church of Spartanburg, where he also serves as an Elder. In
2003, Mr. Kuntz performed at the Midwest International Band Clinic as a
member of the Palmetto Posaunen, a professional trombone choir of 30
members.
Mr. Kuntz is a member of MENC, SCMEA, SCBDA, IAJE, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia,
and Phi Beta Mu. He holds degrees earned from Furman University (B.A.)
and the University of Southern Mississippi (M.M.E.). He has been
accepted into the D.M.A. program in wind conducting at USM.
