Converse Opera Theatre has been and continues to be a large part of the Petrie School of Music. In existence since 1952, the Opera Theatre offers professional quality productions on a yearly basis. Under the direction of Rebecca Turner with musical direction from Dr. Keith Jones, Converse Opera Theatre offers main-stage productions which are performed on the stage of Twichell Auditorium with productions that are fully staged, costumed and accompanied by a full orchestra. Twichell Auditorium seats 1500, has excellent acoustics and a stage that rivals most professional stages in size. Some of our recent productions include The Marriage of Figaro, La Bohème, The Magic Flute, Gianni Schicchi, Suor Angelica, and Hansel and Gretel.
Besides our main-stage productions we also offer Opera Scenes in the spring which usually includes a one act opera with orchestra and scenes from opera and musical theatre. The Converse Opera Theatre and the Petrie School of Music are primary contributors to the cultural climate of the Upstate in South Carolina.
