The American String Teachers Association promotes excellence in string orchestra teaching and playing. ASTA pursues its mission through sharing ideas, benefits for members, development of strong state leadership and chapters, enhancement of the image and visibility of string teaching and studying, advocacy for string education, and an inclusive community of string teachers and players. Student members are an essential asset to the ASTA community.
By having an ASTA Student Chapter at Converse College, Converse women are able to expand their networking opportunities with other students and teachers across the United States. The ASTA Student Chapter is able to gain valuable knowledge from other masters in the string profession. Women from Converse are able to participate in the National Conference held annually by ASTA, which includes master classes with well known artists, lectures on performance practice, lectures on famous artists, and many other wonderful opportunities. The ASTA Organization serves to expand the knowledge and growth of the string department on campus and within the Spartanburg Community.

Musicians Helping Others (MHO) was organized by music therapy majors. The mission of MHO is to educate the public about music therapy, host speakers related to the use of music in healthcare, and conduct fundraising efforts to enable music therapy majors to attend state, regional and national conferences. MHO meetings and events are open to all music majors (and minors) in the Petrie School of Music.
Student members also collaborate with Delta Omicron, the student MENC chapter, and other student organizations to provide special events within the Petrie School of Music.
