The Petrie School’s graduate program is co-educational, and provides men and women with the advanced training necessary for successful musical careers or doctoral study.

Graduate degree programs are offered in:
  • Performance (all orchestral instruments, voice and keyboard)
  • Music Education
  • Music Education with Initial Certification

Petrie School graduate students study with a professional artist faculty in an outstanding facility. The music building features modern classroom, teaching studios, rehearsal halls, and practice rooms. With two nationally-recognized performance halls, one of the largest music research libraries in the Southeast, and an electronic music lab, the Petrie School facilities rank among the finest in the country. Performing experiences abound through masterclasses with guest artists, solo recitals, the Converse Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Opera Theatre, Spartanburg Festival Chorus, and numerous chamber ensembles.

Financial aid for graduate students is available in the form of graduate assistantships. These awards are based on the qualifications of the applicant, the needs of the School, and the availability of funds. The Petrie School makes every effort to assign responsibilities which will enhance the credentials of the graduate student. Students can gain valuable teaching experience through assistantship opportunities offered by the Converse Pre-College, and cooperative agreements with local school districts. Other responsibilities may include general duties related to music performance, library, recording, opera theatre, or office assistance.
