Please come and listen to the first of three innovative women for the inaugural ICE (Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship) Forum for Advancing Women in Entrepreneurship and earn arts and humanities Convocation Credit! On March 16, Eve Blossom will be speaking at 6 p.m. in Kuhn Hall Room 203. Eve Blossom founded Lulan Artisans, which designs, produces and markets sustainable textiles. She works in partnership with more than 800 weavers, dyers, spinners and finishers in Southeast Asia. Lulan Artisans integrates design with systemic social change working closely with artisans to create economic stability for their communities, to open new markets and to prevent human trafficking. A frequent lecturer worldwide on sustainable integrated design and innovative business methodologies, Blossom lends her entrepreneurial acumen to such events as The TED Conference and the Aspen Institute’s Liberty Fellowship. Informational meeting about January 2011 trip to Paris and Tunisia

There will be a brief informational meeting on Wednesday, March 17 over lunch in the PDR from 12:30-1:00 for students interested in studying in Paris and Tunisia with Dr. Cathy West, who has lived both in France and in North Africa. The trip allows you to visit historical sites like the Louvre, the Orangerie (home of Monet's Water Lilies), the castle of Versailles, Ottoman Turk palaces, the ancient city of Carthage and certain sites of the Sahara (including the location where some of the Star Wars movies were filmed). You can receive French and Women's Studies (humanities) credit for your time abroad by taking a course entitled "Women of North Africa: Fact and Fiction," and you will be paired with Tunisian university students with similar interests, which gives you a much better understanding of the country you're visiting. You'll also have a chance to meet with officials at the American Embassy to learn more about relations between the U.S. and North Africa.

The Milliken Art Gallery at Converse College will host an exhibition featuring our own Converse students. They will have an opportunity to showcase their talents in the “2010 Juried Student Art Show” sponsored by the Art Club. This exhibition will be in the gallery from Thursday, March 18 - Friday, March 26, 2010. An opening reception will be held on Thursday, March 18 from 6:30 - 8:30 pm. This event is free and open to the public. Milliken Art Gallery hours are 9:00 am - 5:00 pm Monday - Friday and 2:00 - 5:00 pm on Sunday. The Gallery is closed during school holidays.
