  • Directory of Open Access Journals - providing access to over 2,000 free, full-text, quality-controlled scholarly journals, this resource allows one to search by topic for journal titles or journal articles. Coverage is strongest in the sciences and social sciences.

  • Google Scholar

  • HighWire Press - focusing on the biological and medical sciences (but also providing some coverage of the physical sciences, the social sciences, and the humanities), this product includes 3+ million references to articles as well as 1+ million full-text articles from scholarly journals.

  • InfoTrac - Comprising several individual resources, InfoTrac covers thousands of academic journals, magazines, and newspapers.   • Ingenta - Indexes thousands of magazines and academic journals. Many complete articles are available for purchase. Available both on and off campus.

  • JSTOR - a database of articles from the back issues (3 years old and older) of hundreds of scholarly journals in the arts, humanities, and social sciences. Converse subscribes to “Arts & Sciences I” (119 titles), “Arts and Sciences II” (125 titles), and “Arts and Sciences III (150 titles, including the 32 that comprise the “Music” collection). Available only on campus.

  • Lexis/Nexis Academic Universe - Provides the complete text of articles from newspapers, magazines, and legal publications. Available only on campus.

  • Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center DISCUS Logo- Covers contemporary social issues. More than 8,700 “pro” and “con” articles from books, magazines, academic journals, etc. Reviewed Web sites, statistical tables, charts, and graphs. For off-campus access, contact a librarian.

  • SIRS Knowledge Source - Made up of several individual databases, SIRS provides full-text articles from 1,500 domestic and international magazines, newspapers, journals, and government publications. Available only on campus.

  • Art Full Text - indexes over 400 art periodicals from 1984 to the present; from 1997 to the present, it includes the complete text of articles from around 150 of these periodicals. Available only on campus.

Biology:

  • BioOne - Provides the complete text and graphics from articles from over 200 bioscience journals published by scientific societies and other non-commercial publishers. Available only on campus.

  • CINAHL - The authoritative resource for nursing and allied health professionals, students, educators and researchers, this database provides indexing for over 1,700 current nursing and allied health journals and publications dating back to 1982. Full-text material includes 60 journals as well as legal cases, clinical innovations, critical paths, drug records, research instruments, and clinical trials.   • GreenFILE - This free database provides indexing to 600+ scholarly and general interest periodicals as well as government documents and reports dealing with environmental issues. Comprises approximately 295,000 records, but the vast majority of these include only citations and abstracts, not complete documents.

  • Liebert Online – provides articles (in PDF) from 50+ peer-reviewed journals published by Mary Ann Liebert, Inc.; focuses on the life sciences, biotechnology, medicine, and public health. Available only on campus.

  • MEDLINE - Created by the National Library of Medicine, this resource indexes over 4,600 journals in medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system, pre-clinical sciences, etc..   • ProQuest Science Journals - Indexes about 400 journals in science, technology, and math; includes the full text of most of the articles it indexes. Available to the Converse community both on and off campus. Contact a librarian for more information.

  • PubMed - Comprises several individual medical indexes. Provides citations and abstracts for all articles; includes, occasionally, the complete text of these articles.

  • JSTOR Music Collection - Contains the complete back runs of 32 journals dedicated to scholarly research and theory in the field of music.

  • Music Index Online - Covers over 640 music periodicals with topics in classical and popular music. Includes citations with occasional notes that serve as mini-abstracts, but not the full text. Currently, this index is only accessible on campus.

  • RILM Abstracts of Music Literature - Published by Rèpertoire International de Littèrature Musicale, New York, this resource contains references to music-related information sources such as articles, books, bibliographies, dissertations, concert reviews, and recording notes.
